Chapter 4: Flaws

~

Jiang Roujia's social connections were extraordinary, as she had acquaintances in various industries. What seemed like a difficult task for others could be easily accomplished with just one phone call from her. Despite her previous reputation of having some mental issues in her social circle, people still wanted to maintain a good relationship with her because she was genuinely wealthy.

Seeing Jiang Roujia's financial strength and network, Yun Qianfeng was convinced that her earlier statement, "Consulting gods and seeking divination is the last resort for me," was true. She must have exhausted all possible methods because she had the means to do so.

Jiang Roujia's friend came to take the two strands of hair for the DNA test.

"Do we need to visit other acquaintances of my brother?" Jiang Roujia asked.

Yun Qianfeng waved his hand and replied, "Let's wait for the DNA test results first."

Jiang Roujia looked at Yun Qianfeng, feeling anxious. "What do we do now?"

Yun Qianfeng understood her feelings. She needed to keep busy and not rest for a moment. It would console her to know that she was actively working to find her brother. However, Yun Qianfeng was in a state of confusion because he didn't know how to handle the situation at the moment.

He needed to wait for the paternity test results to confirm some things, so he could only say, "We'll wait for the DNA test results. We'll decide everything once the paternity test is done."

Seeing Jiang Roujia about to say something in anxiety, Yun Qianfeng hurriedly continued, "Jiang Roujia, for the matter of finding your brother, you must follow my lead. Don't disrupt my pace; otherwise, I won't be able to fulfill my contractual obligations to you. 'Stability' includes 'calmness.' Keep yourself steady."

Jiang Roujia was also clueless and had been driven to consult gods and seek divination. Thus, hearing his words, she could only suppress her anxiety and drove with Yun Qianfeng to the lakeside. They sat in the car, staring at the lake, each lost in their own thoughts.

She couldn't help but ask, "Do you think all my troubles would disappear if I just drove the car into the lake?"

As she spoke, she turned her head and saw Yun Qianfeng swiftly unfastening his seatbelt. She couldn't help but let out a muffled groan and said, "Wait, what are you doing?"

Jiang Roujia's social connections were extraordinary, with acquaintances in various industries. What others found to be difficult tasks, she only needed to make a phone call. Despite her previous reputation of having "mental issues" in her social circle, people still wanted to maintain a relationship with her because of her wealth.

Yun Qianfeng was convinced that when Jiang Roujia said, "Seeking divination is the last thing I can do," she meant it. She must have exhausted all other methods available to her, given her capabilities.

Jiang Roujia's friend came to collect the two strands of hair for DNA testing. Yun Qianfeng advised her to wait for the DNA test results before making any further decisions. This left Jiang Roujia feeling restless, but she had to comply with his guidance.

As they sat by the lakeside, Jiang Roujia asked Yun Qianfeng if he knew how to find her brother and if he was using delaying tactics due to his lack of knowledge. She threatened to make him pay the breach of contract penalty if he couldn't provide a reasonable explanation after the DNA results were out.

Yun Qianfeng responded calmly, "And then?" prompting Jiang Roujia to threaten him with violence if he dared to deceive her.

They remained in silence, lost in their own thoughts. Three hours later, Jiang Roujia's phone rang. She answered the call, eager to know the results of the DNA test. Yun Qianfeng knew it must be the person who took the hair samples.

After the call, Jiang Roujia looked at Yun Qianfeng and asked, "How did it turn out?" The results showed that the child was not biologically related to his mother, surprising Jiang Roujia.

Yun Qianfeng's excitement was even greater than Jiang Roujia's. He lit a cigarette, trying to calm himself down. He then looked at Jiang Roujia with an intrigued expression, saying, "Hahaha! It's confirmed, he's not her biological child. My bet was right. No matter how meticulous the calculations, there will always be loopholes. This is the flaw we needed! There's hope to find your brother now!"

Jiang Roujia couldn't understand why he was so excited about someone else's child not being biologically related to their mother. But she listened attentively when Yun Qianfeng continued.

"Remember when you said that Qin Shuying had always wanted a child? But despite being together with your brother for so many years, they had no children. That was suspicious. It could either be that your brother is infertile or Qin Shuying is unable to conceive, both with a fifty percent chance. When I saw Qin Shuying and her son, I sensed that something was off. Later, I noticed that her son didn't resemble her at all, and that's when I decided to take a gamble on this possibility. If I was right, then this would be the flaw in the whole situation!"

"Congratulations, I won the bet. As we can see, Qin Shuying's child was born prematurely at home, eliminating any possibility of a mix-up. This proves that her memory is false, and conversely, it validates your memory as true. This is crucial because it means you are not crazy!"

Yun Qianfeng continued to explain excitedly, "Since Qin Shuying's memory is false and your memory is true, it rules out the possibility of you crossing into a parallel universe. Therefore, the only answer left is that your brother exists in this world, and we can definitely find him."

Yun Qianfeng was thrilled to have witnessed a supernatural event with his own eyes. He was amazed that such phenomena actually existed in the world. However, his excitement was short-lived when he saw Jiang Roujia frantically opening Qin Shuying's voice chat and muttering to herself, "I was right! Finally, there's evidence to prove I was right. She's my sister-in-law, not someone else's wife. The DNA proves that her son is not biologically related to her. Her memories are deceiving her, and I must tell her..."

Yun Qianfeng was alarmed and shouted, "What are you doing? Do you want to destroy a family? Shut it down immediately! This has nothing to do with them, and they can't help you. There's no need to prove to them that you're not crazy!"

He quickly grabbed Jiang Roujia's phone, closed the voice chat, and tried to calm her down. She apologized and admitted to being overwhelmed with emotions. Yun Qianfeng reassured her, "It's alright, don't worry. It's not their concern, and they probably didn't hear the crucial part."

However, Jiang Roujia was already in tears, expressing her regret for her impulsive actions. She explained that in her subconscious, she had called her sister-in-law, someone she considered the closest person to her, based on her memories, rather than the current Qin Shuying.

Yun Qianfeng understood that Jiang Roujia had no ill intentions. Her voice message was an instinctive call to the person she held closest in her heart, her sister-in-law from her memories, not the present Qin Shuying.

Yun Qianfeng wanted to comfort the sobbing girl in front of him, but as his hand was about three inches above Jiang Roujia's shoulder, he couldn't bring himself to touch her. He sighed softly, withdrew his hand, and silently watched her cry. He warned himself in his heart, "I thought I was just here to make a living, not to encounter real supernatural events. I can't get too close to this woman. I have to be tough-hearted in case the road ahead becomes too dangerous and I need a way out..."

Meanwhile, in the city center, within a high-end residential area, Qin Shuying had a pale face, her gaze vacant as she stared at her phone on the table. She appeared like a soulless sculpture.

After sitting there in a daze for a long time, she suddenly stood up and rushed out of the house as if she had gone mad...

Outside, the night sky was illuminated by the city lights, but the darkness within Qin Shuying's heart was overwhelming. She didn't know where to go or what to do, feeling lost and shattered by the shocking revelation.

Her mind was in turmoil as she recalled her memories and the recent events. Everything seemed to fall apart, and the existence of her son's biological father was now cast into doubt. The emotions inside her were a mix of confusion, anger, and despair.

As Qin Shuying wandered aimlessly through the city streets, she felt like she was trapped in a nightmare that she couldn't wake up from. The world around her seemed unreal, and she questioned the very fabric of her reality.

Back at the lakeside, Jiang Roujia's tears eventually subsided, leaving her emotionally drained. She turned to look at Yun Qianfeng, who was still silently watching her. There was a sense of understanding between them, as if they both carried heavy burdens and had glimpsed a world beyond ordinary perception.

Jiang Roujia finally spoke, her voice hoarse, "Thank you for understanding, even if it's just a little. I don't expect anyone else to believe me, but I have to find my brother. I can't continue living in this confusion, not knowing what's real and what's not."

Yun Qianfeng nodded, his expression serious. "I will help you find your brother, but we must be cautious. This is no ordinary matter, and the truth might lead us to places we never imagined. We have to be prepared for whatever we might uncover."

Jiang Roujia looked at him with gratitude in her eyes. "Thank you for not thinking I'm crazy. I know this is not an easy journey, but I can't turn back now. I need to know the truth, even if it's painful."

As the night wore on, Yun Qianfeng and Jiang Roujia decided to join forces in their search for her missing brother. They were about to embark on a journey that would challenge their perceptions of reality and take them into the depths of the unknown. With courage and determination, they stepped into the world of mysteries and enigmas, seeking answers that could change their lives forever.
