Chapter 9: Setting Off
~
Jiang Roujia was restless in her sleep, hugging onto things like an octopus, displaying a lack of security. So when she woke up in the morning, she felt quite shy, but fortunately, Yun Qianfeng was sound asleep.
Then she noticed that Yun Qianfeng was no longer bound by ropes, which made her start doubting life again. She couldn't help but recall the story of the beast and the beastly treatment.
Thinking about how she woke up, clinging to Yun Qianfeng, her face turned red.
In a hurry, she rushed out of the bedroom, worried that Yun Qianfeng's memories might have been tampered with during the day. She quickly changed her clothes and returned to the bedside.
Yun Qianfeng woke up around noon, just as the map was being transmitted.
This meant that at this moment, they were ready to set off.
Regarding the primitive jungle, Jiang Roujia was ignorant and fearless, lacking any psychological pressure. But Yun Qianfeng was different. He grew up in a village near the northern primitive forest, where people had been hunters for generations.
Before going to college, Yun Qianfeng often went into the mountains with the village hunters to gather herbs and find ginseng. He had both knowledge and reverence for the primeval forest.
So, for the primitive jungle, Yun Qianfeng had some psychological pressure, but it couldn't be described as fear.
If it was just a wilderness adventure, compared to the risk of two million, he would definitely look forward to it. What he was truly afraid of were the dangers he didn't understand.
Manipulating memories, even arranging each person in the right place, including giving them husbands and children, the power behind all this was unimaginable and indescribable.
Yun Qianfeng did not consider not going; if Jiang Roujia decided to go, he would go with her. Violating the contract was something he would never do.
So, after much consideration, the conclusion could only be to take it one step at a time.
Yun Qianfeng made a long list, filled with the items they needed for entering the primeval rainforest: knives, axes, ropes, lighting lamps, water bottles, leather boots, sleeping bags, clothes, food, and even a drone for aerial photography.
At the same time, he also specially asked Jiang Roujia to get him a sharp, practical combat spear. Firearms were difficult to obtain, and a long polearm was probably the best option to deal with large wild beasts.
Forming an expedition team was definitely not feasible. Even if Jiang Roujia had powerful social connections, it would still take a very long time to organize a transnational expedition team, from recruitment to project approval. Jiang Roujia didn't want to wait, so Yun Qianfeng had no choice but to take up the role of her temporary special guardian and guide, responsible for her safety.
Jiang Roujia immediately arranged for her friends to get these things and then asked Yun Qianfeng to accompany her to deal with another major matter—handling her discharge formalities.
Indeed, in theory, this young lady should have been hospitalized for treatment at a mental hospital. It was only due to her financial capability that she was able to roam around freely. If she wanted to go on a long journey this time, she needed an indefinite amount of time. If she didn't handle her discharge, the people who had helped her at the hospital would be in trouble.
Yun Qianfeng's role for today was to be Jiang Roujia's temporary special guardian, and he had to sign to guarantee that Jiang Roujia wouldn't encounter any problems. It was a huge responsibility.
The two of them arrived at the office of Jiang Roujia's attending physician, and Yun Qianfeng immediately noticed Hua Dian.
Through the office window, he saw a girl, around one meter sixty tall, who looked at most twenty years old, doing squats in the patient recreation area. She had her long hair tied up neatly, her lips were somewhat pale, her skin even paler, and her eyes carried an indifferent look that seemed to warn strangers to stay away.
It's hard to imagine that such slender arms could effortlessly hold a barrel-shaped stone stool weighing at least two to three hundred kilograms. As the girl squatted, her long and slim waist connected to a well-defined curve, forming an astonishing waist-to-hip ratio, which was incredibly stunning.
Jiang Roujia and the attending physician were talking, and Yun Qianfeng couldn't intervene, so he just looked outside the window at the girl doing her exercises, enjoying the view.
After a while, the girl doing squats in the yard seemed to sense the direct gaze on the most prominent part of her body. She turned her head slowly and locked eyes accurately with Yun Qianfeng. The girl seemed a little angry and turned her head back expressionless.
Yun Qianfeng grinned to show goodwill but was called by Jiang Roujia to sign some documents at that moment. He didn't see how the girl responded to his smile and completely forgot about the little incident after leaving the attending physician's office.
What he didn't know was that right after he and Jiang Roujia left, a seriously schizophrenic patient had escaped from the hospital—the girl who was doing squats.
Everything was ready. After returning home from the hospital, the two of them had a casual meal, combining breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea.
After the meal, Jiang Roujia's friends had already purchased all the equipment Yun Qianfeng requested, and they were neatly placed in her Mercedes all-terrain off-road RV.
Since the equipment couldn't be transported by public transportation, driving was the only way to go.
Jiang Roujia couldn't wait and urged them to set off immediately.
Yun Qianfeng wanted to delay, but this girl was already using the contract against him, which was very annoying.
However, when they arrived at the garage, Yun Qianfeng was suddenly eager to leave as well. He fell in love with the rugged appearance of the RV at first sight and couldn't wait to try it out.
The RV was over five meters long, with a high chassis and a modified 300L fuel tank, which could cover more than a thousand kilometers on a single tank of fuel. The power was strong, and its off-road performance could rival that of a tank, as long as there were no big trees blocking the way, driving in the forest should be no problem.
All the equipment was stored inside the RV's nearly two-meter-high cabin, filling up the living room area that originally had seating, leaving only a narrow aisle.
After a careful check and confirming that there was no missing equipment, especially the spear that Jiang Roujia's friend had prepared, Yun Qianfeng was even more delighted.
This was undoubtedly a genuine weapon, with a leaf-shaped spearhead that was light and sharp, weighing less than two taels. It was an exquisite narrow-head armor-piercing spear.
The spear shaft was made of a traditional laminated bamboo pole, a type of bamboo with strong flexibility, wrapped in bamboo strips less than a millimeter thick, and then covered with silk threads and leather to form a lacquered surface.
Such a spear shaft had great toughness and hardness, capable of withstanding the impact of blades and axes.
Looking at the patina on the spear shaft, Yun Qianfeng determined that it was an artifact left behind from the previous dynasty, more accurately speaking, it should be an antique. He had no idea how much money Jiang Roujia spent on this, but he believed it was definitely not a small amount.
Of course, for someone who casually bought a five-million full-terrain RV to travel to the primeval forest, it was still a small sum.
Jiang Roujia also equipped herself with weapons, a customized carbon fiber compound bow that was incredibly powerful. When Yun Qianfeng tested it by pulling the bowstring, the arrow went straight through an anvil.
It was important to note that an anvil's hardness was comparable to steel, which meant that this intricately designed bow could easily pierce through the skull of a wild beast.
Yun Qianfeng couldn't help but be amazed. He thought that if he had this bow before, he would dare to go into the mountains and hunt tigers, as it was even more ruthless than a rifle.
After making arrangements for one person to drive for four hours and switch, the two of them immediately set off, making a detour to Yun Qianfeng's Feng Shui shop to pick up some things—cinnabar, copper coins, and peach wood swords, etc.
Jiang Roujia didn't quite understand why they needed these items. "Can we use these things?" she asked.
Yun Qianfeng placed the items in the car and said, "This is called being prepared for all possibilities. What if your brother's 'miracle' turns out to be an ancient tomb? These things will come in handy then."
Jiang Roujia suddenly understood and nodded, saying, "You're right. What if we encounter zombies or evil spirits? We can use these items to ward them off. I've seen it in movies."
Yun Qianfeng chuckled and said, "You're thinking too much. Throughout history, the true purpose of these items might only be one thing."
Jiang Roujia didn't understand and asked, "What is it?"
Yun Qianfeng started the engine of the RV again and replied, "To boost courage!"
With that, he stepped on the gas pedal and drove away, heading straight into the wild unknown.
